I recently sat down with Gary Gedney, founder of GHA Solutions, to chat about my journey into recruitment, how IT Works operates, and the ever-evolving Epicor market.
From Geography to Recruitment
My career path wasn’t exactly straightforward! I originally pursued a degree in geography, then I moved into law before realising it wasn’t the right fit for me. I wanted something people-focused, and that’s when I found IT Works. Fast forward a year and a half, and I’m still here—loving every minute of working within the Epicor market.
What Sets IT Works Apart?
With over 24 years in recruitment, IT Works isn’t just about filling roles—we’re about making the right connections. We focus on niche ERP markets like Epicor, IFS, and NetSuite, ensuring that businesses get expert talent tailored to their needs. My role is to make recruitment as seamless as possible, streamlining processes and ensuring the best fit for both clients and candidates.
The Epicor Market & My Approach
Epicor is a fascinating market, largely used by small to medium-sized businesses. It’s different from IFS or NetSuite, and I’ve developed a structured triage process to evaluate roles effectively. I prioritise quality over quantity, working closely with clients to ensure every placement is a success.
Memorable Placements & Industry Trends
Some placements really stick with me—like my first-ever candidate, who I still meet for coffee! Recently, I helped someone who had been made redundant find the perfect role, and seeing that kind of impact is what keeps me motivated. The market is also shifting post-COVID, with companies moving back to more on-site roles, but I always work to find the right balance for candidates and businesses alike.
